How To Shop For Makeup When You’re On A Budget

Let’s face it, makeup can be fun to wear and is really good at covering flaws and giving you that oh so perfect red lip, but that sh*t can get expensive! And with this current wave of makeup trends, it can be hard to keep up when your pockets are saying, “Nope.” MAC Cosmetics and Sephora stores aren’t exactly budget-friendly, however there are options out there for you to achieve the same look as you would with the more expensive products, all while saving a few bucks.

Drugstore Makeup

Dare I say it, drugstore makeup can actually be very suitable. Makeup that is considered “cheaper” is not necessarily inadequate. Although there are a few exceptions to this rule, I’ve found that drugstore makeup can look really good and even similar to high-end makeup products. Even if you can’t manage to find your shade of foundation and concealer in a drugstore like Walgreen’s, there are many other makeup options to choose from such as lipstick, eye shadow, mascara, eyeliner and nail polish that might peak your interest. Some of my favorite lipsticks are drugstore brands such as Revlon, Black Radiance, Wet n Wild and Maybelline. They also offer a range of finishes from creamy and smooth to matte. So don’t be afraid to try out drugstore brands, because you just might find them to your liking.

Inexpensive Makeup

There are also many inexpensive products that you can order via the internet. One company, named ColourPop, offers eye shadow, and lipsticks and liners that they call Lippie Stix and Lippie Pencils. And get this: all of their products are only $5! Not only that, but they offer their Lippie Stix and eye shadows in almost every color you can imagine from bold yellows, reds, pinks, and purples to warm and earthy browns, nudes, and greens. Their Lippie Stix also come in pearlized, glossy, satin and matte finishes. Another company, NYX Cosmetics, offers professional makeup at a very affordable price. They sell pretty much everything: foundation, concealer, bronzer, eye liner, lipstick, nail polish, etc. Their lipsticks, lip glosses, and new lip creams are about $4-$6 a pop, while their concealer and foundation can cost as low as $5.

Makeup Dupes

Makeup dupes are pretty much inexpensive versions of more costly makeup products that are similar or identical in appearance. This is really great for someone on a budget who is looking for that professional high-end makeup look. There are makeup dupes available for eye shadows, eyebrow gels, lipsticks, and lip liners. Finding similar products to the ones you desire that are low priced can save you hundreds of dollars over time and with the internet, they are extremely easy to find. And Instagram page called @dupethat posts pics daily of swatches of makeup dupes next to the more expensive makeup that they favor. Additionally, they also list the price and brand for the products that they feature, with the price range reaching $16-$26. So, what are you waiting for? Go get “Red Carpet fabulous” and buy some equally spectacular clothes with the money that you’re going to save!
