Why It’s Important To Have “Me” Time
Making time for yourself with a busy schedule can feel overwhelming. Between working during the week, running errands, and spending time with family and friends, it can seem next to impossible. We often fill our time with other important things that need our attention and put ourselves last.
I have always found time to be alone. I don’t mean that I sit in my room and stare at the walls. I often catch up on TV shows or read. I like having “me” time. It keeps me sane and relaxes whatever stress I had during the day. Not everyone likes spending time alone but it’s important to take advantage of it. It can be for five minutes or three hours but it can really help, if you are stressed.
Being alone doesn’t mean you can’t talk to people virtually. I use my time to catch up with a friend via text or browse social media. It’s all about getting away from the chaos of everyday life. If you’re in school or at work for 8 hours or more, when you get home, give yourself a break. Watch TV for 30 minutes or take a nap and don’t feel the need to rush.
Naps were one of my favorite past times during college. Yes, they can make you more tired but they are great in a pinch. Being stressed out and overworked is no fun. It’s up to you to make time for yourself. Taking an evening walk, meditating, or indulging in a good book are a few great ways to end your busy day. It’s never too late to relax.
